Where am I?

dark Karen map person place street Venice

It's late, dark and even a bit chilly as Karen tries to figure out where we are and how to get back to our hotel. I don't know how many circles we made in our evening stroll around Venice but everything was looking the same cause it was the same. Karen took over navigating duty.

I found the Locanda Art Deco on Hostelbookers.com and was very relieved since most of my last minute searching for a place was resulting in either it (naturally) being very expensive or far far away. Turns out that the end of August and the month of September is the busiest time for Venice. During our tour of the Doge's palace we learned that it's too hot inside some of the buildings for tours to be offered during the summer. Didn't expect that.

We lucked out and scored a pretty inexpensive room for the center of Venice. When we arrived they sent us to the room on top floor with a low slanted ceiling and a stand up shower stall. The low ceiling thing then became a high ceiling when returned from dinner and found our bags had been upgraded to a nicer room. Silly as it is, I was sad to say goodbye to the shower but happy about the upgrade. I've become a bit spoiled in Amsterdam with our shower stall and was rather bewildered by the lack of such in our first Venice hotel. Well it wasn't exactly the lack of a proper shower but what I was supposed to do with a shower head on a hose attached to the spout (a common situation in Europe I'm finding). With no shower curtain and a short hose/shower head not exactly long enough for me to stand under, I'm perplexed to how I managed to stay clean and not flood the bathroom.
